Biography
Dr. Afia Zafar is a Professor and Consultant Microbiologist and also Chairperson, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, The Aga Khan University, Pakistan. Currently, she is working as Consultant microbiologist and have 20-22 years of experience in Infection control. So, she can talk on nurse role/surgical cases/ infection control etc. She can serve as Chair or co-chair or can be part of a workshop. She has been associated with Journal of Pakistan Medical Association (JPMA) for more than eight years and has thoroughly enjoyed the experience of serving on the editorial board. It is the oldest medical scientific indexed journal of Pakistan, providing an important service to our scholar community. She has reviewed numerous articles for the journal; this provided her the opportunity to review recent research work conducted in this region. She has also published several papers in JPMA. She received several awards like Joint award (National Tuberculosis Programme and WHO) for participation in Global Training Course on Infection Control for TB, Cairo, Egypt, 2009; 2nd prize for Oral Presentation at the 3rd EuroAsia Congress of Infectious Diseases, Baku, Azerbaijan, 2009; Kaizen award, 2nd prize for the Quality Improvement Project, Expo Centre Reducing Ventilator-associated Pneumonia in ICU at AKUH. 2006; 2nd Prize for abstract submission from 5th International Federation of Infection Control (IFIC) Congress in Zagreb, Croatia, 2005; Outstanding Teacher Award, The Aga Khan University, Pakistan 2004.
