Biography
Prof. Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah (a nationally and internationally well known scholar/researcher of Pakistan origin) was born on 1-1-1959 at Larkana, Sindh, Pakistan. Qualified MBBS with distinction in 1980 from Chandka Medical College/ University of Sindh, Pakistan. He passed Fellowship Examination of College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan and was elected as Fellow in Ophthalmology (FCPS) in 1987. He has 40 published research papers and numerous scientific presentations to his credit. He is author of well known textbook of Clinical Ophthalmology "Concise Ophthalmology for Medical Students" (ISBN: 978-969-637-001-7). He is inventor of instruments like "Imtiaz zigzag device" for visual acuity testing of preverbal children. He has added new physical signs like "Imtiaz sign in Vitamin A deficiency" in clinical ophthalmology. He has described new clinical entities and has modified some operative procedures like phaco, entropion with better prognosis. He has received several National and International Awards including OSP (Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan) Gold Medal, Noval Christy Gold Medal and Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology's (APAO) Award 2010 for outstanding services in Prevention of blindness in Asia Pacific region. He is member of editorial boards of numerous internationally reputed journals of ophthalmology. He has acted as scientific evaluator of international conferences representing Pakistan. He is examiner of postgraduate examinations (Membership, Fellowship and Masters) in Pakistan and Southeast Asian countries. He has chaired seats of Dean Faculty of Surgery and Allied Sciences and Director Academics at SMBB Medical University Larkana, Pakistan. Presently he is working as Professor of Ophthalmology at SMBB Medical University Larkana, Pakistan.
